 Description
A Portland-fly ash low alkali cement recommended for use in all concrete , mortar and grout below ground or where sulfates are present.

Castle Sulfate-resisting is a packed Portland-fly ash low alkali cement manufactured to comply fully with the requirements of BS EN 197-1 CEM II/B-V class 32,5R (+SR). BS8500 classifies this cement with a +SR suffix to signify its enhanced sulfate resistance.

Sulfates in soils and groundwaters react with the tri-calcium aluminate (C3A) present in most Portland cements causing expansion and ultimate deterioration of the concrete. In order to minimise this reaction the composition of Sulfate-resisting is manufactured to have reduced levels of C3A thus ensuring that it meets the +SR requirements of BS8500. Sulfate-resisting also qualifies as a low alkali cement. This will keep your concrete looking fresh.

Note: Sulfate-resisting meets the requirements of BS EN 197-1, with added sulfate-resisting properties and is designated CEM II/B-V +SR in Table A17 Cements and Combinations in BS8500 : 2002 Concrete. Complementary British Standard to BS EN 206-1 Part 1: Method of specifying and guidance to the specifier.

Applications
Sulfate-resisting is recommended for use in all concrete, mortar and grout below ground or where sulfates are present in concentrations likely to lead to deterioration as described previously. (Except for class DC-4m)
Marine Concrete: The use of Sulfate-resisting improves the durability of concrete in marine and aquatic environments.
Moderately low heat: The use of Sulfate-resisting reduces the heat evolution of concrete for a given cement content.

Characteristics
Equivalent in sulfate resistance to Sulfate-resisting Portland Cement (BS4027).
Lower water demand than Portland Cement (CEM I) mixes.
Improved chloride resistance.
Meets the requirements of Building Research Establishment Special Digest 1 for all sulfate conditions except class DC-4m.
Meets the requirements of BS8500 : 2002 Concrete - Complimentary British Standard to BS EN 206-1.
Reduced Alkali Cement - declared mean equivalent Na2O of less than 0.6%
The colour may be darker than Portland cement (CEM I).
