Door hinges are not the first thing you think of when it comes to fitting a new door but they an essential fixture so it is worth giving some thought to the size and finish you would like for your doors.

Our Range

Most internal doors for domestic use are 35mm thick, so door hinges which are 75mm x 50mm are the most common choice for this size of door. Door hinges UK are also available in a variety of designs but the most popular are ball bearing hinges and washered butt hinges, each model has different advantages which need to be considered.

Ball bearing hinges remain a popular choice because of the smoother action they provide but the design of them means they do have a larger knuckle compared to washered butt hinges, so the latter is a better option if you are looking for a more discreet hinge. It is recommended that three door hinges are fitted to secure the door and prevent any warping.

Making a Choice

Once you have settled on your choice of door hinges, it is time to decide on your preferred finish. There are a wide variety of door hinges online to choose from so if you want a cohesive look then source hinges to match your door handles or knobs. If you want to achieve a modern look, the most popular finish for door hinges is satin or polished chrome, stainless steel or nickel.

Unique finishes are also available, such as antique brass, and gunmetal, depending on your choice of door handles. Alternatively, if the traditional look is better suited to your home, antique brass, bronze, black and pewter can all help to achieve this.

Not only is there an extensive range of sizes, designs and finishes of door hinges, there are also ones available for many different applications, including fire doors, single and double action hinges, projection hinges, kitchen cabinet hinges and many more.
