Choosing the best patio door for your home has many considerations and is an important decision. While there are many styles of patio doors to choose from, the more popular choices are French Doors or Bifold doors. Knowing the design, structure, and differences with each door is integral to making the right choice for your home.

The classic and traditional option, of course, is the French Door. An elegant and timeless choice that exudes old-world sophistication. It is a more affordable and easier to install door option. French doors are hinged double doors that usually opens outwards. The double doors are fitted to give you access to the full width of the doorway and adds a country feel to your home.

Bifold doors are a sophisticated and contemporary door for the modern home. They are fitted with 2 or more secure glass panels that open in a concertina style to one side of the frame. If you are looking for a ceiling to floor, wall-to-wall opening and a vista that truly allows the outdoors to connect with your living space, then a bifold door is the option for your home.

Our French doors are a classic door with glass panels that open outwards from the middle allowing for more space in the living area. They are an external door and have many different options for colours, frames, and glass panels used. It is a timeless door that won’t go out of fashion.

Bifold doors are a more modern design. They are a multi-panelled door that opens fully to allow in the outdoors completely. You can also choose how many panels you would like to have as well as the opening configurations of each panel. When fully opened, each panel folds onto the other and is held firmly in place to allow in maximum views and light.

Installation

Many of our French doors and Bifold doors are supplied complete with an installation kit with all the fixings such as the outer frames, sills, locks, handles, hardware, and handles so that you can install the doors easily.

So which door option should you choose? There is no wrong answer as both door styles are there to enhance the visuals of your home, to bring natural light into your home and open up your living space.

If you are looking for a more classic and timeless option that is budget-friendly, then you might prefer a French door style. If you are looking for an option that is more open plan and wall-to-wall vistas of the outdoors, then a Bifold door style is the better option for you.

When choosing which door is best for your home you should think about the size of the opening, how much it will cost, the amount of light you would like, ventilation, thermal loss, security and aesthetic impact on the rest of your home.
